“Supposin’ I did kill the Black Dahlia. They can’t prove it now. They can’t talk to my secretary anymore because she’s dead. They thought there was something fishy. Anyway, now they may have figured it out. Killed her. Maybe I did kill my secretary"
–George Hodel, the physician who is widely suspected of killing Elizabeth Short. From 1945, the surgeon was investigated for the unexplained murders of several young girls but nothing was ever proven. With an IQ of 187, he was a certified genius and spent the majority of his time scamming patients out of large quantities of money and even performing illegal abortions. In 1950, three years after the murder of Elizabeth Short, Hodel and his wife unexpectedly moved to China. After his death in 1999, his son Steve (a leading homicide detective), revealed that he had always suspected that his father was the murderer of Short, and firmly believes that she was mutilated in the family bathtub.
